The International Centre for Radio Science has been organizing the National Conference from 1998. This was the fourth conference in series. The National Conference on Microwaves, Antenna, Propagation and Remote Sensing was organized for the first time in the country.  This conference was held from 19th December 2002 to 21st December 2002 and was sponsored by various Scientific Departments of Government of India and Department of Science and Technology, Government of Rajasthan. This conference was unique because the participants came from all over India and this became precursor for the 1st International Conference on the same subject, which was then planned for the year 2003. The response was very good for the conference. The participants were from various Institutions from all over India. They belonged to DRDO, ISRO, different Research Centers, IIT’s and different Universities. The contributions for the conference were from all these institutions. Dr. R.C.Chakraborthy, Director, Defense Terrain Research Laboratory inaugurated the conference and the function was persuaded by Dr. R.K.Sayal Director, Defense Laboratory Jodhpur. Prof. O.P.N.Calla, Chairman and Director, ICRS welcomed the participants. Dr. Natwarlal Purohit gave vote of thanks.

There were four invited talks which were given by-

1.     Dr. Rampal

2.     Dr. Ramesh Garg

3.     Dr. K.S. Rao

4.     Dr. G. Raju

There were about 40 participants in the conference. The total numbers of sessions were ten. On the first day i.e. on 19th December 2002, the topics covered in the technical session were Microwave Devices and Circuits, Microwave High Power Tubes, Devices and Circuits and Microwave Systems. Dr. K.S.Rao gave an invited talk on the Applications of Interferometric SAR. On second day i.e. on 20th December 2002, four sessions were covered. Dr. Rampal gave the invited talk on the EW Antenna systems used in Defense. The topics discussed on this day in technical sessions were Antenna Theory including Smart Antennas, Microstrip and Wideband Antenna & Measurement, Propagation of Radio Waves and Antenna Array & Pattern Synthesis. On third day i.e. on 21st December 2002, two invited talks were there. Dr. G. Raju gave the talk on Meghatropiques and Dr. Ramesh Garg on Microstrip Antennas. In addition, three Technical Sessions were also held. The first session was on Dielectric Properties of Natural Materials. The second session was on Passive Remote Sensing and the third session on Active Remote Sensing and Signal Processing was the last and final technical session. This was then followed by a Panel Discussion. The Panel was chaired by Prof. O.P.N.Calla and the members on the Panel were Dr. Chicharkar, Dr. Rampal, Prof. Garg, Dr. A. Sharma and Dr. Vinod Bothale.
